💡 Shift Your Mindset:

Debt does NOT define your worth or how "good" you are with money. Many Latinas, including myself, have been in your shoes. We’re taught that debt is something to fear or be ashamed of, but in reality, it’s just a financial tool. How we manage it is what matters!

✨ Take Control, One Step at a Time:

1️⃣ Assess Where You Are: Make a list of all your debts and their interest rates. This might feel scary at first, but knowledge is power!

2️⃣ Create a Payment Plan: Start with either the snowball method (paying off small debts first) or the avalanche method (tackling high-interest debt first). Both are great strategies—pick what feels best for you.

3️⃣ Don’t Neglect Your Future: Continue contributing to your savings, emergency fund, or retirement plan. Building wealth while paying down debt is possible!

I’m doing this 30-day challenge and today’s lesson had to do with gratitude. After I finished rolling my eyes and saying “i know!”, I began to think of things that I could be grateful for in a way that helped my money.

That’s when I leaned into what didn’t make me feel good. Hear me out: Bills often feel like a burden, but what if we flipped the script? Instead of seeing them as stress, let’s approach them with gratitude for the services they provide! 🌿

When I write my rent check, I say, "I’m grateful for this place that I call home." 🏡 When I pay my gym membership, I think, "I’m grateful for the opportunity to take care of my body and health." 💪 As I cover my electricity bill, I remind myself, "I’m grateful for the light and energy that powers my work and life." 💻✨

I knew a girl who was stressed about getting married because she thought it meant she’d have to combine all her finances with her partner. Girl, let me tell you—no, you don’t! 🙅‍♀️
🌟 The Power of Autonomy:
You can maintain your sense of financial independence while still working towards joint goals. How much you combine your finances is entirely up to you and your partner. The key is to avoid making decisions that don’t feel comfortable, as that can lead to resentment down the road.
💬 What You Can Do Instead:
Have an Honest Conversation: Sit down with your partner and be upfront about how much you want to join your financial world. Be honest and listen to your partner’s thoughts. Talk about your history with money and encourage your partner to do the same. This will give you some insight into why they act the way they do with money.
Create a Hybrid System: Consider options like maintaining separate accounts for personal spending while contributing to a joint account for shared expenses and goals. It doesn't have to be all or nothing. You can keep your own accounts and have joint accounts for joint goals.
Respect Each Other’s Boundaries: Understand that your partner may have their own feelings about financial autonomy too. Find a middle ground that honors both of your needs.
Remember, there’s no one-size-fits-all approach to managing money in a relationship. What matters most is that both of you feel secure, respected, and heard. 💪
